Coffee with a view
If you love coffee and scenic views, one of my favourite cafes is The Three Bridges at Tomatin. As you enter the coffee shop, you’re immediately struck by the fabulous aroma of homebaking and fresh coffee. The cafe offers delicious hot food and a great selection of cakes throughout the day. Take a seat by the huge windows and enjoy the stunning views of the three bridges that cross the River Findhorn. We especially like watching the trains trundling across the beautiful, stone-built viaduct.
On our most recent visit we each indulged in a hearty bowl of soup with oatcakes and pate – I ordered an americano and Ronald opted for a more traditional pot of tea. Oh, and we finished with a piece of cake, of course!
We don’t normally book a table, but on this occasion we did as we had heard a live music session was taking place that day. Bruce MacGregor and Anna Massie, from Blazin Fiddles, played some fantastic tunes and sang lovely songs. Fingers crossed the cafe have plans for more afternoon sessions – as we would go back time and time again.
The village of Tomatin is midway between Aviemore and Inverness, around 15-20 minutes drive from Avielochan. You can take a nice walk by the river that takes you under the two big bridges and nearby The Tomatin Disitillery offers tours.
You should defnitely add Tomatin to your day’s itinerary!
