Our Green Policy

Avielochan Cottages is passionate about providing a high-quality service whilst also minimising the environmental impact of our activities and our guests are encouraged to follow this example.

We are committed to comply with all current and upcoming environmental legislation.

ENVIRONMENT

  • All properties have well-kept gardens, with bird feeders and natural habitat to encourage wildlife.

SUPPLIES

  • We use minimally packaged products that are durable or refillable, where possible.
  • We use eco-friendly cleaning products whenever possible.
  • We supply ethically sourced welcome products, and actively promote and use local suppliers.

WASTE & RECYCLING

  • We build, repair and reuse furniture, fencing, and signage whenever possible.
  • We provide recycling bins and encourage our guests to use them.
  • We collect glass, cans, paper, and glass for recycling.
  • Compost our garden waste.

ENERGY & WATER EFFICIENCY

  • We are committed to reducing energy consumption and monitor our consumption and use of energy and fuels.
  • All properties are double-glazed and very well insulated and our heating systems are thermostatically controlled and turned off when not required.
  • All fires, heating systems and boilers are serviced annually.
  • We use energy efficient lighting, where possible, and guests are encouraged to turn off lights and appliances when not in use.
  • Electrical appliances are checked regularly and fixed or replaced with energy efficient models.
  • Water consumption is metered and guests are asked to be conscious of water usage and wastage.
  • Guests are asked not to flush anything other than toilet paper.
  • Hill View Cottage has photo voltaic panels installed.
  • We have installed dual-flush toilets.

TRANSPORT & GETTING AROUND

  • Our properties are quite remote and therefore using public transport can be difficult. However, the local bus can be flagged down at the end of the road.
  • We encourage guests to experience the Cairngorms National Park on foot, by bicycle and even on skis.
  • When driving to local towns for groceries or other shopping and activities, we encourage guests to make as few journeys as possible.
